Cartoon Monster
Design and
Construction

Drawing, Sculpting, Ceramics

After viewing a movie by film animator Tim Burton, students were challenged to design an original cartoon monster using basic shapes such as circles, triangles and squares. They then developed their drawings into 3D ceramic forms. Through the process, they not only learned ceramics techniques, such as using pinch pot and slab construction, but also that product design can include many modifications based on the final medium to be used. Comparing the two dimensional drawings to the ceramic sculptures, you can see the student solutions used to realize the final works.
